Duck Creek Log Jam | Columbus Family Photographer

We spent the weekend at the Duck Creek Log Jam music festival down in Hocking Hills over Memorial Day weekend. Boy did we have a blast! My husband and I took our 4 year old son Landon to the festival for his very first camping trip. Despite waking up to a very leaky tent (clearly the rain fly is no longer waterproof) we all had tons of fun sleeping in a tent. We took some time to go hiking in the beautiful Hocking Hills. Landon enjoyed climbing around the rocks and into the caves. But, the best part about the weekend was the music and the incredibly yummy food. They brought in some of the best food trucks I’ve ever eaten from: Paddy Wagon, Smok’n Cantina, and Chelsea’s Real Food. My favorite of the weekend was the brisket sandwich from Paddy Wagon’s. We will definitely be visiting their food truck again when we go downtown. Smok’n Cantina’s quesadillas and their basil lemonade were a hit with Landon.

Our favorite band of the weekend is probably the Hocking River String Band. We bought their CD and Landon has been requesting to listen to “Duck Creek music” ever since:)The lead singer of the band as well as one of the gals from Salty Caramels (Molly Winters) did a music jam with the kids too. That was a big hit with all the kids, and Landon thought it was so fun to hear kids songs that he was familiar with. He had brought along his ukulele and was rocking out to the music all weekend long. He also had to have on his headphones while we were listening to music. He was able to take them off when we were at the campsite, but the music was too much for his sensitive ears and nerves. Landon has sensory processing issues, so loud and unexpected noises are overwhelming for him. He loves to be around things that make loud noises like garbage trucks, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and construction vehicles, but can only do so with his headphones on. Once they are on, they block enough noise out that he is able to relax and feel comfortable in his surroundings. I’m thankful he’s still able to participate in things he enjoys (with some accommodations) even though the noises are overwhelming for him.

There will be another Duck Creek Log Jam this fall, and we are hoping to be able to make it for another weekend of camping, music, food and fun! Check out the pictures I took at the festival below!
